OEM prices for 16x DVD burners might drop to US$35 by the end of 2005

Digitimes
reports that the likes of HP and Dell are enjoying the benefits
of a free market as South Korean and Taiwanese DVD burner manufacturers are
lowering their OEM prices. By lowering the prices they hope to land orders of
big OEM computer builders who take large quantities of their drives at once.
Prices for DVD burners to OEM's could go as low as US$35 at the end of 2005.

With Pioneer and NEC soon expected to release OEM orders for 16x
DVD burners, the intense competition among Taiwan and South Korean makers
is likely to cause OEM prices to drop from US$45-50 currently to as low as
US$35 in the fourth quarter of this year, according to industry
experts.
