OWC launches Blu-ray burner with quad interface

Steve Jobs already shot down the possibility of Blu-ray players coming in Mac computers or notebooks any time soon, but a company has stepped forward to help fill the void for Mac owners.

Other World Computing (OWC) recently launched its Mercury Pro Blu-ray external Blu-ray burner that features 4X Blu-ray disc write speed.  Consumers will be able to connect the OWC device to a PC using USB 2.0, FireWire 400, Firewire 800, or eSATA.

It can burn up to 1 gigabyte of data per minute, with a maximum storage capacity of 50GB per disc.

The drives can also write DVDs, CDs and HD DVDs, according to the company's press release.  It has been tested to work with Apple iTunes, Apple iDVD 5, Apple Disc Burner, Apple DVD Studio Pro, NTI DragonBurn, Roxio Toast, Roxio Easy Media Creator, and Nero.

OWC will ship two different versions of the player, as one of them will ship with software.  The external player shipping with a copy of Roxio Toast 9 Titanium for Mac OS X will cost $579.99, while the player without software costs just $499.99.
