Oront Burning Kit 2 Premium 2.1.6 is released

As the major optical disc software recording suites continue to compete with each other aiming to offer a wider range of features, one thing these now fail to cater for is those who just want a low cost recording suite that meets their needs.  Oront has let us know about their recording suite, Oront Burning Kit 2, which has now reached version 2.1.6.

For those new to this suite, it features CD, DVD, Blu-ray and HD DVD writing support, creating audio CDs from MP3, WMA, OGG and Wave audio, DVD-Video, disc image building & burning, multi-session discs, bootable discs and disc verification.  This package is 5.7MB, something that can be easily downloaded even on a modem.  The premium version adds support for ripping a disc as a disc image, recording data from corrupted discs, choice of UDF, ISO9660 & Joliet file systems, choice between disc at once & track-at-once writing modes and the ability to edit file and volume dates.  This package is 7.03MB; which is still far more compact than the big providers, but not lacking on the main burning features.

New features to version 2.1.6 include two disc tabs of 74 & 83 minutes in the Audio Burning tool, boot emulation choice and the addition of labelling in the basic version.  A few bug fixes include preventing the splash screen from getting stuck and eliminating the "Index out of bounds (-1)" error that sometimes appeared.  The complete change log since Version 2 can be viewed here.

Trial/update versions of their basic and premium suites can be obtained here.
