Ken Kutaragi said that Playstation will become open format. What does this mean you ask? Well, it basically means that Playstation would be able to be placed inside T.V's, and other appliances. Ken Kutargi said, "We will be able to provide customers with powerful and flexible processor functions". He also said that he feels that by making Playstation open format that it could make the user base for Playstation2 skyrocket, and at the same time help the Playstation. Nobuyuki Idei, seems to be in favour of this too, he said "The gaming market is huge," he continued to say that "There are no other consumer electronics products that sell 2 million units in 80 days as Playstation 2 did. If the console remained just a Sony platform, there would be limits to its market penetration. By opening the format, a new horizon will emerge." So there you have it people, it looks like we might be playing PS, and PS2 anywhere. I can see it now, a PS2 hooked up in a car, or better yet in the washroom. |
