Plextor PlexWriter 16/10/40A review

On Neoseeker you will find a review on the PlexWrite 16/10/40A CD-RW drive. This IDE drive is capable of writing CD's at 16 speed, rewriting at 10 speed and reading at 40 speed. The drive also features Burnproof to prevent buffer-underuns.

The Plex is compared to the Iomega ZipCD CD-RW drive, a drive that writes at 12 speed, rewrites at 10 speed, and reads at 32 speed.

Ofcourse the Plex is faster in all tasks, and also this review has to conclude that this drive is another piece of art of Plextor ! Considering there will be a clear explanation on the SafeDisc 2 issue that is

Not surprisingly the Plextor drive scores about average in CD-RW tests since it's a 10x re-writer. On the writing tests it scored marginally lower than the Iomega ZipCD drive. These differences are marginal though; the Plextor drive's CD-RW write times are amongst the faster 10x write speeds I've seen.

The Plextor drive pulled far ahead on the CD-RW format, cutting just under four minutes off the time to format a CD-RW. The Plextor drive's quick erase times were also faster by 27 seconds or over a third. These time savings are quite impressive; I hate to wait for one of my CD-RW disks to format so the four minute savings is quite useful.

Conclusion

The Plextor PX-W1610TA is an excellent drive; Its fast burn times coupled with BURN-Fast technology make it is an excellent choice in terms of CD burning power. It's 40x read times are extremely fast for a CD burner, and it's great scores as a CD Rewriter make it excel in that field also. I loved using this drive and highly recommend it to others
