Quanta Storage has said it will launch an external slim-type combo drive around the end of the second quarter of this year:
The company estimated that worldwide demand for external slim-type combo drives will come to 15 million units next year, including six million units from new notebooks (20% of expected notebook sales) and nine million units from upgrade demand (from notebooks sold in the past three years). It aims to obtain a 15-20% market share. |
Combo drives seem to be the future. This is not only the case with slim line notebook recorders but with normal internal atapi drives as well. CD-recorders have (almost) reached their peak and manufacturers are looking for new ways to improve their products.
