A company from Singapore has created a VCD-recorder, which is capable of recording television shows on a normal CD.
They say they have created the replacement for the VHS video recorder. For US $499 it is possible to tape television, dvd or a CD on a blank CDR without needing a computer.
Recorded on a plain CD they say they have a better quality then a VHS tape. Using MPEG-1 compression, 74 min can be put on 1 CD. If u want to record a complete movie u need at least 2 CD's.
The advantage is, that recorded on a CD, u can play it on most DVD players, and play it on your personal computer.
Well I don't really think this is the replacement for a VHS tape, because it can only handle 74 minutes.
