Ritek claims to leapfrog SanDisk on flash memory drives

Following our earlier report by Seán on the $600, 32GB flash drive announced by SanDisk, a further story on TechSpot describes how Ritek has jumped into the spotlight by announcing a 16GB unit that will probably be priced at between $170 and $200. Not only that, but Ritek is claiming that the units could be available in form factors of 1.8" and 2.5", as early as the second quarter of 2007.

Of course the usual noises are made about larger, 64GB capacity drives coming hard on the heels of the smaller units. Let's see what happens with the first predictions and whether manufacturers really find it more cost-effective to incorporate Ritek flash in preference to Sandisk.
