SanDisk releases 8GB Sansa Clip

SanDisk today released the Sansa Clip 8GB MP3 player for a mere $99, hoping it catches the attention of athletes and other people who are on the go.

The Clip is about the same size as a book of matches, which means it's small and portable, but it doesn't lack basic functionality.

The 8GB model has an OLED screen, built-in FM radio, podcast and audiobook support, and excellent sound quality. It supports MP3s, WMA, WAV, FLAC, OGG, and Audible music files.  Battery life is good for 15 hours.

It has integrated support for Rhapsody To Go, Napster, eMusic and other subscription music services.

The 1GB Sansa Clip costs $39, 2GB available for $59, and the 4GB version for $79.  Each model is available in multiple colors, except for the 8GB model, which is currently available in black.

Apple dominates the MP3 player market with SanDisk and Microsoft trailing in second and third position.  The Clip will compete directly with the iPod Shuffle and other small MP3 players.
