Scour bankrupt

LOS ANGELES -- Scour Inc., a high-profile Internet entertainment service whose investors include Hollywood agent Michael Ovitz, said on Thursday it has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, becoming the latest victim in the recent wave of dot-com fallout.

Los Angeles-based Scour, which lets Web surfers swap video and audio files online much like song swap service Napster does, said it made the move "to ensure its continued operation in the face of burdensome lawsuits."

Like Napster, Scour faced a long and potentially expensive legal battle over copyright infringement with some of entertainment's most powerful companies like News Corp. Ltd.'s 20th Century Fox, Sony Corp.'s Sony Pictures Entertainment, The Walt Disney Co., Viacom Inc.'s and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc., to name a few.

During the bankruptcy process, all of Scour's products, including Scour Exchange which is the swap service, will continue to be available at the company's Web site, www.scour.com, said Scour President Dan Rodrigues.

According to Rodrigues they "took this step in order to preserve Scour's future"
