Sonic Provides Burning Engine in Windows Vista

Sonic Also Working With Microsoft to Develop Certified for Windows Vista Digital Media Software Applications

NOVATO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sonic Solutions® (NASDAQ: SNIC), the leader in digital media software, announced today that AuthorScript®, the company's proven formatting and burning engine, has been selected to enable a range of DVD and CD recording features in Windows Vista. The built-in AuthorScript engine provides features within Windows Vista that help users archive digital memories to CDs and DVDs, create custom music discs, and perform important data backup functions. Sonic is also working with Microsoft to develop digital media applications that will optimize and enhance consumers' experience with Windows Vista. Certified for Windows Vista applications will include a range of applications within Sonic's Roxio product lines such as Roxio Easy Media Creator® 9, the company's flagship digital media software suite of CD and DVD authoring, burning, photo, video, and music tools. As part of the Windows Vista launch program agreement between Microsoft and Sonic, Microsoft will showcase Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 in a range of venues and programs as it prepares for the launch of Windows Vista.

'It is an honor to have been selected by Microsoft as a core technology provider for Windows Vista," said Stan Wong, general manager, Roxio division of Sonic Solutions. 'We look forward to extending our relationship with Microsoft and delivering a range of applications that integrate well with Windows Vista and complement and enhance consumers' experience with the burning functionality included in the forthcoming operating system."

Sonic and Microsoft entered into a multi-year licensing agreement in which Microsoft licensed Sonic's DVD-Video authoring technology. Under this agreement, Sonic is providing core DVD technology and development expertise to Microsoft. This and subsequent agreements between the two companies enables Microsoft to embed Sonic's AuthorScript formatting and burning engine in Windows Vista and includes AuthorScript modules for DVD-Video formatting and burning, DVD-Video slideshow creation and burning, DVD-ROM and CD-ROM data burning, and CD-Audio burning.

'We are extremely pleased that Sonic is one of the technology leaders engaged in supporting the launch of Windows Vista, providing the core recording technology that will enable integrated experiences for CD and DVD burning as well as compatible-with-Windows Vista specific applications," said Dave Wascha, director of partner marketing for Windows Vista at Microsoft Corp. 'Easy Media Creator 9 is a solid complement to the premium experiences in Windows Vista and will help increase consumers' enjoyment of working with personal photos, videos and music."

The latest version of Sonic's award-winning digital media software, Roxio Easy Media Creator 9, with over 100 new features and trend-anticipating capabilities, reaffirms the company's position as market innovator. The suite includes extensive support for portable entertainment devices, high-definition video editing tools, and ground-breaking audio creation and enjoyment features. Easy Media Creator 9 is expected to be certified through the premium Certified for Windows Vista Logo program within the consumer launch window.
