The Channel Register reports some additional information this morning on the fact Sony has announced a drive that supports DL +R burning at 8x speeds. In addition, Mitsubishi will follow suit with a DVD+R capable media in October. Misubishi says the media is based on a "high-sensitivity organic pigment" to support write speeds of 2.4x up to 8x and a maximum data-transfer rate of up to 209.25Mbps.

The drive also supports DVD-R DL 4x, DVD+RW discs at 8x and DVD±R at 16x and DVD-RW at 6x. The product will come with two bezels, silver and black. Nero will be bundled as well at an estimated cost of €70 (£48/$88). Additional details can be found in this press release from a few weeks back.
