Taiwanese DVD burner makers seeing Pick Up Head shortage

Taiwanese
DVD burner manufacturers, such as BenQ and Lite-On are suffering from a shortage
of pick-up heads (PUH's) for 6x and 8x double layer DVD recording. The shortage
is caused by Japanese makers of an essential part of the PUH's, laser
diodes.

With
prices of 16x DVD Dual burners continuing to drop, global demand has
picked up and the Japanese makers of laser diodes, a key component for
PUHs, are unable to improve their yield rates to increase supply, the
makers claim.

Due to the shortage, deliveries of 6x and 8x double layer PUH's has
been delayed about one month. Supply for 4x double layer PUH's is currently
stable. Read the entire article over at Digitimes.com.
