Toshiba to start shipping desktop S-ATA HD-DVD burners in February

Toshiba send us the news that the company is going to launch world's first half height desktop HD-DVD burner. The company already released a slim line device in 2006 and this new S-ATA desktop burner should make the format popular in normal desktop PC's. Volume shipments of the SD-H903A are scheduled to start in February with OEM sampling in January.

The question is, how many early adaptors are willing to pay the price for the HD-DVD burner. The fact that Toshiba doesn't give any estimated retail pricing could be an indicator that it will be rather expensive. If Blu-ray wins, then you end up with an expensive drive that has hardly any use...
