US BitTorrent site admin sent to prison

Womble used our news submit to tell us about a report listed over at TorrentFreak, that gives us some news about the hazards of running certain types of websites.

This will be the first conviction in the United States for such a crime. BitTorrent sites are known as tracker sites and don't actually offer files. They just show people where they are. Even so, this was enough to put this person behind bars. Stanley had entered a plea of guilty to the charges of 'conspiracy to commit copyright infringement" and 'criminal copyright infringement". Stanley is just one of three defendants named in the FBI/MPAA operation known as 'Operation D-Elite". We have to wonder what he would have gotten if he decided to fight it and claim innocence.

The 23 year old Grant Stanley has been sentenced to five months in prison, followed by five months of home detention, and a $3000 fine for the work he put in the private BitTorrent tracker Elitetorrents.
