What's going on with napster? *Update*

Update:
Trade publication MCV is reporting today that the popular Napster program may soon serve up subscription-based access to its 1.6 million users for a variety mediums including music, movies and other forms of entertainment such as game software.

TVT Records, one of the largest U.S. independent record labels and home to acts like rapper Snoop Dogg, said on Thursday it has dropped an estimated $1.5 billion in copyright infringement claims against song-swap service Napster. (Yahoo)

So that's the second record label that quits the case against napster. Bertelsmann, which has invested an estimated $50 million to $70 million to Napster, has invited other labels to join in the alliance but only Edel Music of Germany had joined.

So the case against napster continues...

In the first demonstration of how Napster and Bertelsmann will generate revenue, Napster released a new version of its software that includes an e-commerce component linking to Bertelsmann-owned CDNow. So you can buy your cd's from napster, what a paradox

And what about the pay-version of napster?

"I'm convinced we can introduce in June or July of this year a subscription model, with a real working digital rights management system," said Bertelsmann CEO Thomas Middelhoff.

No price is given, but rumours has it that it will be around $5...
