Will DRM disappear or just reappear in reincarnated form?

This article appears to lead us to believe that instead of ridding the marketplace of meddlesome DRM which only serves to hinder portability of legally purchased music and video, it may begin appearing in multiple forms.  Of course, the article appears to contradict itself by stating the following:

"We don't see progress in DRM standardization," said Lagomichos of ST. "There is no interoperability, because that's how service providers—such as satellite operators—want it to be, as they operate in a closed environment." But when it comes to PCs, "Microsoft's DRM is the most common DRM," he added.

In the same breath, it even asserts somehow that Microsoft "leads the way" in the DRM field, although I doubt any consumer dealing with any form of Microsoft DRM would uphold that opinion.  They only true pioneer will be the first one to drop DRM totally, like the bad idea it is.
