Win2000 easier to hack than WinNT

However Microsoft states Win2k to be safer then WinNT is, as a matter of fact Win2k is quite easier to hack than WinNT.

About 55% of the website defacements is done by making use of some NT-security failure. Second comes Linux with 21%.

In those 55% procent of hacked NT systems, the percentage of Win2k hacked systems keeps on rising.



One in ten defaced Web sites in the Attrition archive run Windows 2000, which is racing ahead of the deployment of the technology. Prior to November 2000 less than 3 per cent of defacement were on Windows 2000 servers. The sharp increase since then is likely to be related to the release of exploits against Microsoft's IIS 5 Web server software.

Pinkley said he wouldn't advise customers against using Windows 2000, which he said could be securely configured by people properly aware of latest security issues. This goes for any operating system but is all the more important for NT users, according to Activis.

I always liked Win2k better than WinNT but this sure ain't good news. Also because I'm developing some websites running Win2k (ASP)...
