iPod earbuds shocking some users

A warning posted on the Apple web site is now alerting iPhone and iPod owners that they may experience a "small and quick" shock from their earbuds due to a large amount of static electricity build up.

Apple said this is happening most in locations "where the air is very dry" and it "is easy to build up static electricity" before a small electrostatic discharge happens.  Furthermore, it also happens in very windy environments, when owners take an iPod in or out of their pocket, or while working out carrying an iPod.

It's unknown why Apple decided to issue an official warning, but there were a couple of discussion threads posted on the Apple support site discussing electric shocks users received.

The Apple web sites goes into depth about static build up, how to prevent it, and both indoor and outdoor tips for iPhone and iPod owners.

I've never been a fan of the earbuds that ship with the iPod, and recommend you try to avoid using the earbuds by purchasing a decent pair of earbuds -- Apple said it could happen with other earbuds, but this seems to be a growing problem for Apple's earbuds only at the moment

Have any of you experienced this before?  If so, were you using Apple's earbuds, or were they from a different company?
